Nearly 130 friends of Building Hope in the City attended a fun-filled “Night at the Races” fund-raising event last weekend to show their support for the organization. The event kicked off with opportunities for attendees to sponsor bibles, tanks of gas for the BHITC bus, and outreach events for 2010. Many in attendance entered to win amazing raffle prizes; the night concluded with horse racing to win fun white-elephant gifts. Assistant Director Brian Upton spoke about new ministries and events, including the International Friends Program at Luther Memorial School. The International Friends Program is a dynamic collaboration between BHITC and Luther Memorial School and will offer a specialized curriculum for international students. The program will launch in the fall of 2010 with a goal of 20 refugee children enrolled as students. The 2010 mission campaign Hope Creates… was unveiled. Attendees were asked to consider becoming a CityLight by donating or pledging $500 or more in 2010 toward the Hope Creates… campaign.

Walking is a common activity that most of us don’t give a second thought to doing each day. But for a group from Faith Lutheran Church in Lakewood and Messiah Lutheran Church in Fairview Park, walking was an intentional activity that took place on Saturday, Oct. 10, with the goal of bringing the Gospel to a community in need.
The prayerwalk was a 45-minute walk during which prayers of worship, warfare and welcome were offered up to God. The prayerwalkers were walking in order to pray and be guided in prayer – not just praying while they walked.
The prayerwalk precedes the launch of the Kids of the Kingdom ministry at Faith Lutheran Church on Saturday, Nov. 7 – a weekly children’s program aimed at un-churched families who live within walking distance of Faith.
Stay tuned for more updates on Kids of the Kingdom and new ministries at Faith Lutheran Church.
